As a fashion editor, it's a part of the job description to be able to spot emerging trends. We spend much of our time looking to runway shows, designer collections, celebrity events and of course, social media to be able to recognise of-the-moment styles and outfit formulas. However, with lockdowns imposed across the country, understanding the trends of the moment has become less about what celebs are wearing on the red carpet, and much more about what Britons choosing to sport during their daily walks and supermarket runs. And, as every editor on our team agrees, this time around there is certainly a 'lockdown uniform' that has come into play.
Whether it be at local parks or outside coffee shops, over the last few weeks, I have spotted so many women wearing the casual outfit formula of a puffer coat, leggings, chunky boots and a beanie. It's a simple, fool-proof uniform that will keep you warm while your trudge through muddy grass or carry home bags of groceries yet also happens to be very comfortable and look somewhat put together. (A win-win, in every sense of the phrase.)
Evidently, celebrities and the style set aren't immune to the appeal of the easy look as everyone from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to London stylist, Hannah Lewis are sporting the style online too. In terms of influencers, it seems many are opting to invest in long, calf-grazing puffers (no doubt for the added warmth factor) and sleek leggings in shades of black or brown. Though if you're looking to add an interesting pop of colour to your look, might I suggest a beanie hat in a light, fun shade?
For this lockdown, we're all about applying the K.I.S.S principles—keep it simple!—so scroll on to see how influencers are wearing this practical outfit formula and then shop the elements of the look below.
