Whether You're 25 or 65, These 5 Pieces Are Perfect for Party Season
As a stylist for over 10 years, I've dressed women of all ages, sizes and backgrounds. And something I often get told is that they think they're '"too old" to wear something. My reply? Wear whatever makes you feel good. Because wearing what you love will instantly give you the confidence to pull off any look. With that being said, though, there are some particular trends that I always believe work on absolutely everyone, no matter your age.
Party season is in full swing, so to give you a helping hand, I've found five timeless looks that are guaranteed to work for every upcoming occasion in your busy diary. Whether it's a black dress—my mum in her 60s, myself in my 30s and even my niece who is 8 owns one of these—a jumpsuit or a sharp trousers suit, these are the 5 trends that are guaranteed to work for every generation.
1. A Trouser Suit

@venswifestyleStyle Notes: The power of a great trouser suit knows no bounds. Wear it to the office with a shirt, at the weekend with trainers or for a festive soirée with heels— it's the do-it-all duo that's the ideal alternative to a party dress. Pink a bold colour to counteract the dreary weather or go with a classic: black, grey, white or metallic.
Satin always feels more dressy for party season.
2. The Black Dress

@frannfyneStyle Notes: If it isn't broke, don't fix it. The black dress will always be timeless, flattering and effortlessly stylish and that's why it's a party season hit each and every year. Franny goes for a floaty midi (and looks gorgeous in it) but minis and maxis are also prevalent this year. Pick your fighter and dress up with your favourite accessories.
You can also transform into a slip skirt by adding a chunky knit.
You've most likely seen a Taller Marmo dress (or three) on Instagram.
Black tie event coming up? This is the one.
3. Slip Skirt

@monikhStyle Notes: I remember when Monikh first wore the Topshop slip skirt in 2018, and I was instantly sold. The wearable midi length and instantly luxe satin finish is what makes any top you pair it with feel more polished. And Monikh is still wearing the slip in 2022—proof it never fails. Just add a blazer, knitwear or satin top depending on what's coming up in your diary.
Keep it simple with tonal separates for a look that'll never fail.
I love the lace hem on this Rixo winner.
I would also wear this to brunch with knee-high boots and a blazer.
Wear with a knit (just like Monikh) for a high/low party look.
4. Jumpsuit

@_jeanettemadsen_Style Notes: When I fancy giving my party dress collection a break, I always look to a jumpsuit. The one-piece is a ready-made outfit that needs little styling to look amazing. Need further proof? Just look at Jeanette's cut-out version with simple heels and no jewellery. If you're looking for something a bit more classic, a tuxedo-style or bustier jumpsuit is the way to go.
I would definitely wear this to a winter wedding.
You can't go wrong with velvet for party season. This jumpsuit comes iin sizes xxs to 4xl.
5. Party Pants

@laurennicolefkStyle Notes: It's the one time of the year there's no such thing as OTT, so why not go all out? Sequin, velvet and rhinestone-embellished trousers are an easy way to look festive. Lauren gives a lesson in how to make sequins trousers look chic by teaming with a tailored blazer.
Naturally I want the matching top, too.
Rhinestone-embellished jeans look effortless with a white T-shirt.
Silver trousers are a mini trend this season, and I'm here for it.
