I've Used This Cult Cleanser For Over A Year and My Skin Has Never Been Better

Hands up if you’re a fully-fledged member of the "hot cloth cleanser fan club." I certainly am, and I’ll tell anyone who sits next to me long enough about my love for this cult beauty product. When I say cult, I really mean it. This year Liz Earle is celebrating 25 years of their hero product which sells every 15 seconds globally and has won over 130 industry awards. Being a brand’s best-selling product for so long certainly says something to its credit, but if you need any more persuasion let me fill you in on its wonders.

In the current beauty landscape where new product launches happen every day, we can all sometimes feel a little overwhelmed on which products to actually take the plunge with. As a result, tried and tested products can sometimes be overlooked in favour of the next best thing, so I wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of one of my (and the industry’s) treasured beauty products.

I actually discovered the Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser years ago when I first started working in the fashion and beauty industry. I tried it and, I’ll be totally honest with you, I wasn’t 100% sold. I now realise this was my inexperience talking as I wasn’t keen on the hydrating feeling the cleanser left on the skin (crazy, I know)—I was convinced my skin wasn’t clean unless it was literally squeaking. Then I visited facialist Rhian Truman just over a year ago (Londoners check her out if you haven’t already, she’s an insider favourite) for a skin consultation and she said it was one of her all-time favourite, gentle but effective, great for all skin types, cleansers and advised me to try it. When I explained why I didn’t think I loved it, she said that feeling afterwards is exactly what you do want as squeaky clean cleansers tend to strip the skin of all its natural moisture.

Since this revelation, I’ve used this cleanser every morning and night, and let me tell you, I have never had as many compliments on my skin as I have in the last year. As you can see from this recent no-makeup selfie, the glow is off the scale (if I do say so myself). As I have combination skin that often suffers from hormonal or dietary (or environmental—thanks, London) breakouts, the added benefits of having a gently exfoliating cloth is a life-changer and I don’t think my skin would ever feel truly clean now without that step. Plus, ending the day with an extra-hot cloth and the mornings with a cool one feels very spa-like, don’t you think?

The creamy texture gently melts away any makeup (even tough eyeliner) and daily grime but leaves a hydrating feeling that makes it work on most complexions. It was in fact formulated in the first place to work for both of the Liz Earle founders who had completely opposite skin types. And the best thing is, unlike many cult cleansers, it’s also affordable meaning you don’t have to be worried about slathering it on.
