If Fashion People Wear Leggings in 2024, It'll Be With These 8 Elevated Basics

@rosiehwIf anyone knows just how quickly the trend cycle churns, it's fashion editors. One minute, cargo pants are everywhere; the next it's low-rise jeans, and these days, the fashion set and skinny jeans exist in a perpetual state of "Will they? Won't they?" A classic pair of leggings, however, are an evergreen constant, and no matter what state the rest of the trend cycle is in, it's the one thing a fashion person is always sure to have in her wardrobe and in rotation.
It makes sense then, that the versatile style never loses its fan base. When you think about it, there are just so many ways to style leggings. Whether part of an athleisure getup for a coffee run and errands à la Kendall Jenner in ALO or elevated with a blazer and heels for the office or a night out (whoever said leggings weren't trousers was very wrong), the outfit potential is virtually endless. To keep things simple, though, for those of you looking for a little legging style inspiration, these eight outfit combinations are the place to start.
1. OVERSIZE TOP + NEW BALANCE SNEAKERS

@lucywilliams02Style Notes: It's impossible to go wrong with an oversize sweatshirt or jersey top and a pair of leggings. Try a monochromatic pairing to keep the look elevated (we love Lucy William's choice of espresso brown). Then, add a pair of New Balances, fashion's favourite It sneaker.
Clean white sneakers always add a little polish to an outfit.
2. TURTLENECK + STRUCTURED JACKET

Edward Berthelot: Getty ImagesStyle Notes: Yes, you can totally wear leggings to the office when done right. Take this look for instance, with a turtleneck and crisp tailoring, the casual trouser takes power dressing to a whole new level.
Obsessed with Massimo Dutti's deisgner-looking jackets? We are too.
With an elasticated waistband and premium body-skimming stretch, these leggings have all the bells and whistles in the event you plan on dressing them up for formal events.
3. HIGH-NECK JACKET + PLATFORM BOOTS
Photo:
@rosiehwStyle Notes: A black jumper is a statement when worn as an ultra-high neck jumper with a bold zip. Add chunky platform boots, and suddenly, your casual outfit isn't so casual anymore.
This is how you dress up leggings (and this slight platform is sure to be comfortable and easy to walk in).
4. SPORTS BRA + HOODIE
Photo:
@kendalljennerStyle Notes: Kendall Jenner takes what's dubbed the "Range Rover mum" approach to styling leggings. A triangle sports bra and zip-up hoodie in classic tones is all the look calls for for post-gym outfit that ticks every box.
These have a bit of a sculpt and lift to shape in all the right places.
5. FAIR ISLE SWEATER + BLAZER

Claire GuillonStyle Notes: Leggings with Fair Isle sweaters is a winter styling tip many fashion people are in on now. Add a blazer to the equation and you're ready for almost any occasion.
I know we're talking leggings, but honestly, what can't you style this sweater with?
I haven't met a pair of ponte leggings I didn't want to live in.
6. NYLON JACKET + PUMPS

@christinecenteneraStyle Notes: Trying out the stirrup legging trend is expert styling territory in and of itself, but add in the unexpected pairing of a nylon jacket and pumps, and you'll be rivalling the wardrobe of off-duty models.
We see why Hailey Bieber loves these with jersey fabric that molds to your shape and zip pockets.
The asymmetrical cut makes these a particularly fashion-forward choice.
7. MIDI DRESS + FLATS

Jeremy Moeller for Getty ImagesStyle Notes: Leggings with a dress? Actually, the answer is yes. Go for a polished style in a neutral tone and cool flats to finish off the look.
Wolford leggings have the best high waist for sculpting.
8. TUXEDO BLAZER + WHITE PUMPS

Morgane MauriceStyle Notes: Leggings for a formal event? This look manages the nearly impossible, and manages to incorporate this seasons trending dressy shoe: the white pump.
A tuxedo blazer is the type of wardrobe investment you'll lean on for years to come.
There's something so flattering about stirrup leggings.
