I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My mum is one of my biggest style inspirations. Having worked as a fashion buyer for over 30 years, my mum has her personal style nailed down to a tee, and I don't think I've ever seen her in an outfit that I don't immediately want to add to my own wardrobe. Practically everyone in my family—including my boyfriend—goes to her for style advice, and since we now both work in fashion, we are constantly messaging one another with links to pieces we love, from investment buys that are on our wish lists to high-street items that have caught our attention.

Despite an age gap of over 30 years, my mum and I rarely disagree on fashion, and we live by a "what's mine, is yours" approach when it comes to our closets. We might wear different dress sizes—she wears a size smaller than me and I'm about 2 inches taller—but, luckily, there are tons of pieces that we regularly swap, from denim that works with both of our body shapes to forever handbags, and evening-ready tops to holiday-ready dresses. I've even been known to steal a bikini or two from her before!

Just this morning, I sent her a bunch of links to some really expensive-looking, new-in H&M products that I loved for both of us, and she followed up with a few she'd spotted for our mutual wardrobe, too. What followed was a list of 13, anti-trend items that make up a uber-chic capsule wardrobe. One that both my mum and I will both be relying on throughout 2024. See our favourite H&M picks below...

My mum and I regularly share the contents of our wardrobes with one another, despite a more than 30-year age gap.

We're both loving swapping out our all-black winter looks for grey this season. This coat looks so much more expensive than it actually is thanks to the dropped-shoulders and exaggerated shape.

Such a great staple that is instantly elevated by the chunky crew neckline.

My mum and I are both on the hunt for the perfect dark-wash denim shirt this year, and I think we just found it.

We both believe you can never go wrong with a great LBD.

A double-breasted blazer will work hard in your wardrobe. Wear it over dresses or slip skirts or pair with jeans or leggings.

Already ordered and love, but we both had to go up a size in wide-leg jeans.

Roomy enough for all the essentials, but still so chic.

Wear under your grey coat with baggy blue jeans and trainers.

Neither of us are a fan of logos, so a simple white pair of trainers like these are perfect.

This wool-blend skirt is high on our wish lists. I'd wear it with knee-highs and a relaxed blazer, and my mum would wear it with a grey jumper and flat boots.

A body will work hard in your capsule wardrobe. I like to wear mine under knitwear, whereas my mum pairs hers with wide-leg trousers and trainers.

We've been eyeing these up for a while now...

Boots that will go with everything in your wardrobe will always make for a wise investment.
