A Stylist Just Told Me That These 3 Haircut Trends Will Be Everywhere This Year
It's no secret that last year was the year of the bob. From the choppy bob to the Italian bob and even the "old money" bob, we've certainly had our fair share of short-hairstyle inspiration, and I know so many people who took the plunge this year and went for the chop. As much as I love this trending hairstyle, I've been keen to know what else will be big for 2024. Will it still be all about the bob, or will there be a new style that takes centre stage? To find out more, I reached out to Valerie Benavides, a stylist for Hair By Sam McKnight, to get an expert's opinion on what haircuts we can expect to see everywhere.
Although the bob will still be making an appearance, some new, shorter hairstyles will be giving this trend a run for its money in the new year. In fact, I've already noticed the below haircuts grow in popularity, so I don't doubt that we'll be seeing them all over the runways and on some of our favourite celebs in 2024. Intrigued to know more? Luckily for you, Benavides has shared all the details on each style, so keep on scrolling for everything you need to know. I've also included lots of product recommendations for those of you who want to give one of these cuts a go straight away. I already know which one I'll be trying…
The Best Haircut Trends to Try in 2024
1. The Super Pixie

@thevisuelofgraceFirst up, we're going a lot shorter in 2024 thanks to the super pixie. "The 'Supers' [the iconic supermodels of the 1980s] inspiration isn’t going anywhere," says Benavides. According to her, we're going to be seeing short pixie cuts with lightly-feathered fringes everywhere.

@taylor_hillBenavides says that this style can be worn skimming the eyes or slicked back, and I'm personally a big fan of Taylor Hill's wispy fringe.

For that slicked-back look, have some hair gel to hand. I'm a big fan of this one from Hair by Sam McKnight.
If you prefer a tousled look, keep your roots fresh and voluminous by using a scalp-friendly shampoo.
For added volume at the roots, you can't go wrong with this spray from Living Proof.
2. The '70s Bob

@hoskelsaSee? Told you the bob wasn't going anywhere. Next year though, the '70s bob will be all the rage. Benavides says that this cut can be worn polished and straight, turned under for a luxe look, or flicked out and waved for texture and volume. The flicked ends here look so '70s to me.

@lilyallenThe great thing about this bob is that it can be any length from chin to collarbone-skimming. As described by Benavides, it's a versatile and easy-to-wear cut. Lily Allen has styled her bob with movement and texture here, keeping her ends turned under for a chic finish.

@selenagomezYou can also opt for lots of movement and flicked-out ends just like Selena Gomez.
Want those fun, flicked-out ends? One of the easiest ways to achieve this is with a hair straightener, and this mini GHD one is great for shorter hairstyles.
For more movement and texture, try a finishing cream.
Make sure to set everything in place with a generous helping of hairspray.
3. All Layered Up

Layers always looks so good with voluminous roots, and this lightweight foam will make your hair appear a lot fuller.
For those of you with naturally curly hair, use a curl cream to help define your layered style.
