I Just Tried Tons of New Perfumes—These Are the 17 That Stood Out
I love trying new perfumes. Unlike makeup where I tend to stick with what I know, or skincare, where chopping and changing between products is a big no-no, fragrance is a product that affords me complete freedom. My favourite morning ritual is deciding which perfume to wear, and I switch it up each day based on how I’m feeling, what my plans are, and what I’m wearing. Of all the five senses, smell is the one most connected with memory and emotion, so if you’re approaching the new year looking to make changes or about to start something new, then wearing a new fragrance is also a great way to switch things up and acknowledge a new season, phase, or state of mind.
Of course, there are plenty of classic scents and bestselling fragrances to choose from, but if you’re searching for something, new, different, and that you’ve never smelt before, then you’ve come to the right place. Led by olfactory innovators like Phlur, Commodity, and Byredo, the latest assortment of new fragrance launches prioritise self expression and feeling good, and encourage wearers to build a fragrance wardrobe and experiment with scent layering, a key trend for 2023.

@THATGRACEGIRLScroll down to discover our edit of the 16 best new perfumes in time for spring. Who knows, you may even discover your next signature scent.
1. Jo Loves Ebony & Cassis
Inspired by founder Jo Malone's travels to the Middle East, Ebony & Cassis is a rich, opulent fragrance which lends itself well to evening wear. I love the way it combines the sharp sweetness of blackberry with the warmth and depth of nutmeg and myrrh.
2. Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Black Tea
Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 famously relies upon just one ingredient, ISO E Super. This year, the brand have released a three-piece collection which sees the classic skin scent combined with one of three individual notes—ginger, guaiac wood, and black tea. The latter is my personal favourite—the earthy bitterness of the tea is a perfect accompaniment to Molecule 01's warmth and sweetness.
3. Killian Love Don't Be Shy Special Blend Amber & Oud
Love Don't Be Shy is one of Killian's most popular fragrances, and this spring it's been given a new rendition. The original scent (which has light floral notes of neroli, bergamot, orange blossom, and rose) is combined with oud and a rich amber accord. The result? A warmer and more sensual interpretation—which is incredibly addictive.
4. Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom Cologne
Right on time for spring, Jo Malone have once again released a limited edition Blossoms collection—this year, the scents are inspired by China. There are three light floral colognes, my favourite of which is Osmanthus Blossom. The radiant spring-like scent sees fruity, suede-like apricot take centre-stage against a backdrop of orange blossom and cashmere wood.
5. Maison Margiela Replica On A Date
Maison Margiela's latest is a fresh, fruity, and hyper feminine scent, which is bound to be a real crowdpleaser. It’s dominated by floral notes of rose and geranium, but rounded out by blackcurrant, pink pepper, bergamot, and an aromatic green base.
6. Byredo Eyes Closed
Like all Byredo perfumes, the brand's latest launch is a true olfactory experience. Celebrating the connection between scent and emotion, Eyes Closed doesn't just smell good, it makes you feel good. Mixing light and powdery notes of iris and papyrus with warm cardamom and ginger—I'll be wearing this soft and romantic scent all spring and summer.
7. & Other Stories Rose Revival
When it comes to affordable fragrance, you can’t beat & Other Stories’ perfume offering. Unlike other lower priced fragrances, & Other Stories scents don’t rely on single notes or fill their formulas with alcohol. Instead, they blend and layer multiple notes, resulting in perfumes that smell and last just as good as their more expensive counterparts. The newest fragrance from & Other Stories is actually a relaunch of one of the brand's original best-selling scents, Rose Revival. It's a fresh, sparkling rose scent with additional notes of pear, magnolia, and cedarwood. And yes, it’s also available as a scented candle, body wash, and body mist.
8. Diptyque L'eau Papier
Simultaneously clean and fresh, but also soft and woody, this light, airy scent is perfect for spring.
9. Colekt Void
10. Phlur Tangerine Boy
This is the latest launch from the brand that brought us the TikTok viral Missing Person and it’s created by esteemed perfumer Jerome Epinette, so we can guarantee it’s going to be a popular one. Unlike Missing Person (which is super subtle) Tangerine Boy is a bright, bold scent which immediately captures your senses with an invigorating fruity blend of lemon, tangerine, ginger, and apple. In typical Phlur fashion however, the top notes are grounded by a spicy but green base of amber and moss, which adds a layer of complexity and sensuality. I’m rarely drawn to citrus scents, but this has totally won me over. It’s fun, but also grownup and sexy.
11. Killian Blue Moon Ginger Dash
Inspired by a zesty summer cocktail (key notes are lemon, vodka, and ginger), this is exactly the kind of fragrance I'd reach for on holiday or when the weather (eventually) starts to warm up. It's fresh, aquatic, and citrusy, but with a spicy, musky base—a perfect unisex, share-with-your-partner kind of scent.
12. Sunspel Sea Moss
If a brisk morning beach walk were a scent, it would be this. Crisp and clean, Sea Moss conjures sandy feet and a salty sea breeze via notes of cedar, rose and lavender. It’s powdery and calming, making it the perfect perfume to transition from winter to the freshness of spring.
13. Commodity Moss
Although this fragrance isn’t totally new to market, Commodity has just relaunched in the UK, which felt like a good enough reason to shout about this brand, since it has such a unique and interesting concept. There are just six perfumes to choose from, but each one is available in three ‘scent spaces’ which allows you to tailor the intensity of the fragrance. The brand also encourages layering the different scents together to create your own unique blend. My personal favourite is Moss - inspired by a forest walk, it combines woody notes of cedarwood, petitgrain, and oakmoss with bergamot and orange blossom. It’s fresh and earthy, but a really sophisticated and interesting scent.
14. Kayali Vanilla Royale
Despite only launching in 2018, Kayali (founded by Hada Beauty’s Huda Kattan) has already won over beauty editors and fragrance enthusiasts alike. The latest launch from the brand is a souped-up version of Kayali’s bestselling scent, Vanilla 28. Sweet yet seductive, it exudes luxury, thanks to notes of patchouli, brown sugar, rose, and oud.
15. Vyrao The Sixth
Two years in the making, this herbal fragrance from Vyrao is a confident scent designed to deepen the senses, ground the wearer, and enhance mindfulness and intuition. From juniper berry oil (which calms and eases stress) to rosemary oil (which lowers stress levels and balances the nervous system), each note is chosen for its emotional benefits.
16. Boy Smells Hinoki Fantome
A true winter perfume, Boy Smells’ newest scent showcases resinous woody notes of cypress, hinoki wood, fir balsam, and cedarwood mingled with black pepper, tobacco, and leather. It’s reminiscent of a cosy log cabin in the woods, an effect achieved by being simultaneously earthy, smoky, and crisp.
17. Aesop Eidesis
Sweet and spicy might not sound like two things that go together, but in Aesop’s latest fragrance creation, Eidesis, they make total sense. Of course, in classic Aesop fashion this is far from a classic perfume. There is nothing obvious, no fruity or floral notes, instead Eidesis combines pepper, petitgrain, cedar, cumin, and vetiver into something totally unique.
